χαίρει γὰρ τὰ μὲν τοῖς ἁπαλοῖς τὰ δὲ τοῖς ξηροῖς μᾶλλον· ἔνια δὲ καὶ ἀνάπαλιν ἁπαλὰ μὲν ὄντα ἄβρωτα ξηραινόμενα δὲ ἐδώδιμα διὰ τὸ συνεκπέττεσθαι καὶ ἐκκρίνεσθαι τὸ πικρὸν ὑπὸ τοῦ ἡλίου καθάπερ τὸ σήσαμον καὶ τὸ ἐρύσιμον· τούτων γὰρ χλωρῶν ὄντων οὐδὲν ἅπτεσθαι δοκεῖ ζῶον διὰ τὴν πικρότητα καὶ δυσχυμίαν, ξηρανθέντων δὲ μᾶλλον, οἱ δὲ δὴ καρποὶ καὶ ἡδεῖς. Ἀλλὰ δὴ τούτων μὲν τοιαῦταί τινες αἱ αἰτίαι.
