Δοκεῖ δὲ (Δημόκριτος) Φησὶ, καὶ Ἀθήναζε ἐλθεῖν καὶ μὴ σπουδάσαι γνωσθῆναι, δόξης καταφρονῶν. Καὶ εἰδέναι μὲν Σωκράτην, ἀγνοεῖσθαι δὲ ὑπ ̓ αὑτοῦ· «Ἦλθον γὰρ, φησὶν, ἐς Ἀθήνας καὶ οὔτις με ἔγνωκεν.» «Εἴπερ οἱ Ἀντερασταὶ Πλάτωνός εἰσι,» φησὶ θρασύλος, «οὗτος ἂν εἴη ὁ παραγενόμενος ἀνώνυμος, τῶν περὶ Οἰνοπίδην καὶ Ἀναξαγόραν ἕτερος, ἐν τῇ πρὸς Σωκράτην ὁμιλίᾳ ὁμιλίᾳ διαλεγόμενος περὶ φιλοσοφίας, ᾦ, φησὶν, ὁ φιλοσόφος ὡς πεντάθλῳ ἔοικεν.»
