οἱ δὲ ταύτῃ στρατιῶται τὸν Δέκιον ὁρῶντες τοῖς ἡμαρτηκόσιν ἐπεξιόντα, κάλλιον εἶναι σφίσιν ἡγήσαντο καὶ τὸν παρὰ πόδας ἀποσείσασθαι κίνδυνον καὶ ἅμα προστήσασθαι μόναρχον, ὃς καὶ τῶν κοινῶν ἂν ἐπιμεληθείη κρεῖσσον καὶ οὐ σὺν πόνῳ περιέσται Φιλίππου, πολιτικῇ τε ἀρετῇ καὶ πολεμικῇ πείρᾳ προήκων.
