Who runs Interlinea
Interlinea is a project of Aeterna Institute, a non-profit, maintained by Rumi Elías Calles, its founder. For anything about your data, write to us through Contact.
What we store
Reading the library needs no account and stores nothing about you. When you save a word, finish a passage, paste a text or ask the tutor, Interlinea creates a guest account so your work has somewhere to live.
For that account we keep your saved words and their review schedule, reading progress and quiz scores, texts you paste, and how many analyses and tutor questions you used each day. If you sign in with email or Google, we also keep your email address and the name Google shares. We also keep any mistake report or message you send us.
Who processes it
Accounts and data live in Supabase, in the United States. The site runs on Vercel. Text you paste and questions you ask the tutor are sent through Vercel's AI Gateway to a language model provider, only to produce your answer.
So your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you are in the EU or the UK, these providers cover that transfer with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Tutor conversations are stored only in your browser, not on our servers. Each question is still sent to the model provider to get its answer, along with the text and sentence it is about, never your name or email.
There are no ads and no third-party trackers. Nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Why we may use it
We use your data only to give you the service you asked for. We save your words, progress and texts, and we answer your questions. Under the GDPR, that is processing needed to perform our agreement with you.
We count daily analyses and tutor questions, and limit how many messages one person can send, to keep the service working for everyone. That is our legitimate interest.
Cookies and local storage
We only use cookies the site needs to work. They keep you signed in and remember your language and level. There are no tracking or advertising cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
Reading preferences such as text size and theme are kept in your browser.
We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and stores no IP addresses. We also log a few product events in our own database, such as finishing the reader tour, saving a first word or reaching a daily limit, so we can see what helps. An event holds its name, the page and a few numbers. It never holds the text you read, paste or ask about, or your email. If you have an account the event is linked to it; if you don't, it is linked to nothing. We keep events for 13 months. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we log no events at all.
Keeping and deleting
Guest accounts that stay idle for 30 days are deleted with everything in them.
In Settings you can download everything as a file, delete your saved words, progress and texts, or delete your whole account. Deleting also removes the analyses of your pasted sentences, unless another text or a library passage uses the same sentence. Delete my data also removes your product events. After you delete your account, mistake reports, messages and product events stay, without a link to you.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your data. Most of this is in Settings. For anything else, use Contact. We reply within 30 days.
Complaints
If you think we handle your data wrongly, tell us first through Contact. If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Interlinea is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with its date.
