As the man was taking off his extra clothes, the heat became more intense, until, unable to resist the heat, he stripped and went to a flowing river for a bath.
δυνάμενος: clause explaining ἀπῄει.
Οὕτω καὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἔνιοι, τῶν πραγμάτων ἐφικέσθαι μὴ δυνάμενοι δι’ ἀσθένειαν, τοὺς καιροὺς αἰτιῶνται.
Thus also some of humankind, not being able to attain their goals due to weakness, blame circumstances.
δυνάμενοι: describes ἔνιοι as a participle or clause.
